Sells Beer
On Sunday
By Mary Ann Campbell I I
NORTH ORLANDO —
Casselberry is not the only
town in Seminole County
that sells beer and wine on •
Sunday. North Orlando
also has that distinction.
But the city goes Cas•
selberry one better — beer
and wine are on sale here
from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m.,
while Casselberry does not
start beer sales until 1 p.m.
There is only one store in
North Orlando. It is owned
and operated by Joseph
Hage, and the city has
allowed him to sell beer
wine since the store
opened. North Orlando re-I
ceives sales tax, cigarette
tax and half of the fees
paid for beer and wine
licenses from the store.
Half the fees will amount
to $90 a year according to
Joseph Rage.
JOSEPH HAGE is "keep-
ing his fingers crossed,"
hoping that Casselberry
will stop the Sunday sales
of beer and wine. This he
believes, will increase his
Sunday business to such an
Iextent he may have to pave
more area for parking, and
' hire extra help.
Hage also said that if this
does happen, he may even • '
enlarge his store to take I
care of the volume. Rage
does most of 'his beer and
wine business on Sunday
mornings, before Cassel- I
berry stores are able to I
sell it.
HAGE STATED that if it
was not for beer and wine
sales, he "could not have
stayed in business" all
these years.
Only resident objection
against these Sunday sales ,
has been against the
amount of traffic at the
store on Sunday mornings,
especially since there was
no police on duty.However,
part-time patrolman H. D.
Shinn was on duty Sunday (. F_ Q 2 Li 5
June 29, so the council may
have some future plans to
provide Sunday police pro-
tection.
