The almost $1.5 million project Please see COMPLEX, 28 X5"O9 COMPLEX From 1 project was initially expected to cost $1.45 million, but three unforeseen projects — resurfacing the road in front of the building, upgrading car- peting and installing wallpaper — re- quired additional funds. The complex is a major change from prjfvious municipal facilities, which ranged from the former North Orlando Water and Sewer Co. building on North Fairfax Avenue to a trailer, fire station and an abandoned recreation building on Edgemon Avenue. The 3,000-foot-recreation building housed city hall through last week and will be converted into a community recreation building. The fire department also will gain space from the city's move to new headquarters by taking over the police departments quarter's at Moss Road and First Avenue. Not only the layout of the new mu- nicipal building, but refined technol- ogy, particularly in the police department, is a marked change from the sparse equipment of the past. Before the move the police commu- nications center consisted of home- made communications units. The new center includes an advanced telephone system with direct access to the coun- ty sheriff and fire departments and the city fire department. In addition, a dictaphone tapes all incoming calls to the police department, which aids emergency assistance. The new municipal complex will of- ficially open on Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. in a ceremony including state and local d nitaries. An opening celebration for the pub- lic will take place Sept. 21 at 11 a.m., featuring guided tours through the building, refreshments and entertainment. xSO ? 4 Neighbors not giving in to Duda Homeowners re-examining , ethis i ` 'n options on 500-acre project DUDA pr for the nearly ltway • From 1 "If those roads aren't there, that By Mike Berry [Duda] development isn't built," Bible orms ssNE1 srsr said.
