HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016 03 10 Other, Tuskawilla Office Park Wall Inspection document shown by Staff Date: March 10, 2016 The attached document was distributed and discussed with the Oak Forest Wall and Beautification District Advisory Committee by Staff at the Thursday, March 10, 2016 Regular Meeting. MEMORANDUM TO: File FROM: Brian Fields, P.E., City Engineer DATE: June 9, 2015 SUBJECT: Tuskawilla Office Park Wall Inspection I performed a field inspection of the Tuskawilla Office Park wall today. This was a courtesy inspection performed at the request of an abutting resident. The inspection consisted of the observation of the wall along its entire length from the office park side, plus periodic observations on the residential side at various locations based on accessibility. Representative photos of the inspection are enclosed. No testing or underground inspection was performed. The Tuskawilla Office Park wall is a 6 -foot high brick masonry wall that was built in 2002. The wall has a length of approximately 900 -feet and it runs along the southern property line of the Tuskawilla Office Park, adjacent to the backyards of eleven single- family residential lots along Cheoy Lee Circle in Oak Forest (from 630 through 653). The wall is owned and under the maintenance responsibility of the Tuskawilla Office Park Owners Association, Inc. A summary of the items noted during the inspection is as follows: • Based on the locations observed, the wall is in good condition. There are no signs of structural deterioration such as cracks, settlement, mortar failure, etc. The wall is 13 years old and is showing normal signs of surface weathering due to exposure to various environmental conditions. • There are no signs indicating the wall has been damaged or repaired at any of the observed locations. • On the office park side, there are several locations that do not have stable ground cover at the base of the wall. These areas are vulnerable to erosion which could undermine the wall if left unchecked. The installation of sod or other ground cover material is recommended. • Pressure washing would improve the appearance of the wall in several locations, especially where the cap bricks are under tree canopy. There are no locations observed that were in a condition such that any code enforcement action would be warranted. • At several locations, mainly along the residential side, the wall is in direct contact with the adjacent vegetation (tree limbs). It is recommended to trim back this vegetation unless specifically designed to be part of the wall. HB ASSOCIATES, LLC I'I STRUCTURAL /CIVIL ENGINEERING drill "IIIIIp I!I!,.
