HomeMy WebLinkAboutChief of Police Employment Contract O 0 _ • EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT - THIS AGREEMENT, made and entered into 'this day of June, 1966, by and between the VILLAGE OF NORTH ORLANDO, Florida, hereinafter called the Village and/or Employer, and hereinafter called the Employee, WITNESSETH: That whereas the Village is desirous of obtaining the services of a Chief of Police for the municipality and whereas the Employee is desirous of securing said employment upon the terms and conditions hereinafter set forth, which said terms and conditions have previously been disclosed to myself, the Employee, NOW, THEREFORE, it is agreed as follows: 1. That the service to be rendered by the Employee under this contract requires special training, skill and ex- perience and that this contract is entered into for the purpose of obtaining such skilled services for the Village. 2. That the salary paid to the Employee shall be at the rate of Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00) per month payable on the last day of each and every month to the said Employee and said Employee shall be entitled to a five per cent (5%) increase in wages at the end of six months from the date of this contract and an additional five per cent (5%) increase at the end of one year from the date of this contract; and there shall be no change in the rate of compensation, location or duties or position with 0 0 Ob3X Otl3X the Employer nor shall the provisions of this contract be modified except specifically as to such changes as provided for herein unless such changes are reduced to writing and agreed to by both parties. 3. That the services of the Employee hereunder shall begin on the day of , 1966, and shall con- tinue for one year from that date and at the expiration of said one year period, said contract may be renewed at the option of both parties under the terms and conditions set forth in this con- tract. 4. That the Employee will be on call twenty-four (24) hours per day and will devote to said job the necessary time and effort to properly police the Village both during daylight and dark hours. During the school year the Employee will place on the high- way the school signs at 7:00 A. M. on the weekdays and they shall remain in place until 9:00 A. M. and shall again be placed out at 2 :00 P. M. each day and remain until 4:15 P. M. each day, and the Employee further agrees that he will during these hours meet the school buses as they arrive to load and unload children and the Employee shall insure that these duties are carried out faithfully each and every day during the school year. The Employee will further make a minimum of three tours through the Village each day, one of which must be made during the nighttime hours, the Village 4 being defined to include the Village proper, Coronado and the Ranches area. The Employee will perform all of his duties to the best of his ability and in a manner satisfactory to his Employer. 4. That he will faithfully maintain accurately all records, preserve -2- . i 0 0 _ .JUJ .. oa�x o613x such records and make all reports as may be required by the Employer; that he will account for all money and other properties of the Employer which may or will come into his possession and will pay over and deliver the same to whomever and at such time as may be directed by the Employer. 5. That the Employee agrees that he will operate a. base station in his home twenty-four hours per day and Employee further agrees that there will at all times when he is absent from his residence be someone present therein who can and will operate such base station and relay any and all calls received thereby or accept any and all calls received upon such base station and that said person will also be charged with the duty of answering any and all phone calls during the Employee's absence from his residence. The Employee further agrees that he will be available for all calls, emergencies of any nature, on a twenty- four hour per day basis as agreed to hereinabove. 6. It is agreed that the Employee shall receive one day off each week, such day to be agreed upon by the Employer and the Employee and that the Employee shall be entitled to one week paid vacation at the end of the first year of his employment. In the event that this contract is renewed at the end of the first year, it is agreed between the parties that the provisions as to pay and 4 vacation shall be open to negotiation for future period of time to be covered by this contract. 7. The Village will pay one-half of the Employee's phone bill each month and the Village will also pay all long dis- -3- • } 0 • 00J Uu Oi 3X Otl3X tance phone calls which pertain to Village business and it is further agreed that the Village will pay to the Employee $2.00 Y each month to be applied on the Employee 's electric bill to defray the cost of the operation of the base station from the Employee's home. 8. The Employee will obey all rules, regulations and special instructions imposed by the Village and will constantly endeavor to improve his ability and the knowledge of his employ- ment in an effort to increase his value both in terms of his services and knowledge for the mutual benefit of his Employer and himself. 9. It is agreed that the Employer will have no authority to impose any obligation upon or to bind his Employer in the per- formance of any act whatsoever unless it be with the express written • consent of the Employer. 10. That during the period of employment the Employee agrees that he will not associate himself with or engage, directly or indirectly, in any business which is in conflict with that of • the Employer nor will he solicit any other manner of work or em- ployment which is in competition or of the same nature as that for which he is employed hereunder. 11. It is agreed that the Employer and the Employee may terminate the provisions of this agreement upon thirty (30) days written notice to either party and that the Employer may for just • cause due to the improper performance of duty or for misfeasance, malfeasance or nonfeasance of. the Employee discharge him from office. 12. This contract constitutes the sole and complete . -4- O 9 S V � o;, lx' oaax .? agreement between the Employer and the Employee, that no verbal or other statements, inducements or representations hive been made to or relied upon by me. - 13. It is mutually •understood and agreed that all agree- ments and covenants contained herein are severable and that in the event any of them with the exception of those pertaining to salary shall be held to be invalid by any Court, that this contract shall be interpreted as if such invalid agreements were not contained herein.
