Position Objective and Primary Responsibilities:
Administer and supervise all operations of the Fire Department.
Report on the efficiency of the operations of the Fire Department.
Command, directly or indirectly, all combat operations.
Command, directly or indirectly, all training procedures, tactics
and operations.
Prepare and supervise an annual budget for Fire Department operations.
Responsible for the selection and discipline of Fire Department
personnel.
Positions Supervised:
All Fire Department Personnel.
Duties:
Issue and enforce directives, department instructions and general
orders relating to the operation of the department.
Responsible for determination and application of Fire Codes adopted
by the City.
Conduct Fire Inspection Programs for all types of occupancies applicable
to the City.
Shall conduct and supervise staff meetings.
Shall maintain and make available reports and records on how the
efficiency of the department is effected.
Shall exercise final control and authority on transfer of personnel
within the department for the betterment of the department.
Appropriate Qualifications and Requirements:
State firefighter certification.
Complete the course of instructions for Emergency Medical Technician
and maintain State Certification.
Shall have experience or in-service instruction of the following:
I. Supervision of Fire Department companies and or stations.
2. Understanding of both common and special fire hazards.
3. Familiar with all property in which fires may be combated.
4. Knowledge of building construction.
5. Maintenance of discipline and training standards.
6. Understanding of fire fighting tactics.
7. Sense of what is appropriate in public relations.
8. Ability to write and speak effectively.
9. Maintenance and servicing of fire apparatus.
10. Master all aspects and abilities of the Firefighter's Standards
applicable to this Fire Department.
11. Possess a working knowledge of City Codes and Ordinances.
12. Must be proficient in fire investigation procedures.
13. He must have understanding and working knowledge in such areas as
Fire Protection Administration, Personnel Management, Major
Emergency Planning, Public Relations, Safety Practices, Fire
Department Organization and Management, Public Finance, Budgeting,
Public Administration, and such other functions relative to operating
and maintaining an effective fire service organization as directed
by the appropriate authority.
Other Desirable Skills, Education, Experience or Professional Background:
• Have a degree from a college or university in courses satisfactory
to the Fire Department.
Ability to instruct effectively.
Attendance certificates of fire service courses.
Working and progressive knowledge of modern fire equipment and
practices.
Practice good management techniques.

Description of Duties:
The Fire Chief must possess the professional qualities expected of
him in the fire service. He must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and the
ability to perform those objectives as specified by the department. He must
have mastered all aspects and ahilities of the firefighter's standards
applicable to this fire department. He must possess and demonstrate leadership
qualities that promote cooperation from subordinates and managerial abilities
in human relations. Must conduct fire inspection programs for all types of
occupancies applicable to the city, and possess a working knowledge of city
codes and ordinances. Must be proficient in fire investigation procedures. He
must demonstrate the ability to produce effective public information programs
for public relations. Must have the ability to produce, assign and monitor
training progrmas applicable to department standards and policies.
He must have understanding and working knowledge in such areas as Fire
Protection Administration, Personnel Management, Major Emergency Planning,
Public Relations, Safety Practices, Fire Department Organization and Manage-
ment, Public Finance - Budgeting, Public Administration, and such other functions
relative to operating and maintaining an effective fire service organization as
directed by the appropriate authority.
Position Title: ChiSrEngineer and Asst. to the Chief's Reports to: Chief
Position Objective and Primary Responsibilities:
Assume the duties of the Fire Chief during his absence.
Readiness attitude of department apparatus.
Assume command of any given situation on alarms of emergency in
conjunction with Chief/Shift Supervisor.
Supervise property control within the department.
Shall make available records of training.
Coordinate and supervise the training program.

Fire Volunteers
Duties:
Responsible for conducting and supervising engineer training within
the department. Conduct necessary programs to instruct sub-
ordinate personnel in the safe operation and maintenance of all
fire pumps. Responsible for and conduct all driver training
and vehicle safety programs by conducting written, oral, and
practical tests. Shall be familiar with all department apparatus,
be knowledgeable in preventive maintenance of that apparatus, and
able to identify potential problems.
Develop necessary programs for vehicle servicing, lubrication and
other means of vehicle care to insure maximum and dependable
performance. Maintain records on all vehicles showing maintenance
costs and dates and be able to identify potential problems with
the vehicles. Supervise the overall training programs within the
department to insure a constant high standard of proficiency for
both paid and volunteer personnel. Programs will include both
firefighting and medical emergency subjects. Provide training
for related subjects in such areas as fire prevention, general
safety practices, and life safety that are suited for instructing
and educating the general public.
Provide necessary assistance to the Chief in supervising shift
personnel, duty schedules, activities schedules and such other
administrative assistance as requested by the Chief.
Appropriate Qualifications and Requirements:
State Firefighter Certification.
Completed course of instructions for Emergency Medical Technician
and maintain State Certification.
Be a qualified Engineer.
Have experience and/or in-service instruction on the following:
1. Qualified as an instructor (by Department)
2. Knowledge of all types of combat operations.
3. capable of commanding any operation on an emergency.
4. Knowledge of fire service equipment, maintenance thereof, proper
and safe use, and proper manipulation of the equipment.
5. Knowledge of all tactical operations, including different
evolutions to be used.
6. Maintenance of training standards.

and fire pump apparatus.
