City Manager
City of Winter Springs

Dear Mr. McLemore,
This letter is in response to our conversation on July 8, 1997 in which we discussed the
Winter Springs Historical Society and its financial situation.
The reason for contacting you was to inquire about the City assuming custiodialship of the
funds the Society currently has. The funds, in excess of$1,100.00,were raised on behalf
of John Baker, our president, who passed away recently.
The members of the Society met recently and agreed to ask the City to accept the funds
for the purpose of developing and maintaining a museum on behalf of the City and its
historical past.
In its formation in 1995, the objectives of the society was, and is,to collect, preserve,
publicly display, and make available to researchers those artifacts, documents, and other
items which illustrate the natural, social, political, educational, and recreational
development of the City of Winter Springs.
Until recently most of the items the Society has in its possession were stored in a public
storage facility. As you know, the City recently provided storage space within City Hall
until some better location becomes available. It is hoped and anticipated that those items
will remain somewhere in City Hall for the future viewing and appreciation of the residents
of our city.
Should you, the City, accept custody of funds from the society it is our hope that one day
a small museum may become a reality and that members of the society or perhaps a City
appointed Museum Advisory Board would provide the manpower to operate such a
museum.
Your favorable consideration in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Should you
require further information please contact me at 327-1222.
Very truly yours,

WINTER SPRINGS HISTORICAL SOCIETY
July 14, 1997
Dear Member,
At our recent informal meeting on July 3, 1997 we discussed the funds of the society
and what we should do with them. There were two suggestions which included
moving the money into a savings account and turning the money over to the City of
Winter Springs to be used for the benefit of our organization and its goals.
I spoke to Mr McLemore, the City Manager, on July 8, 1997. Mr. McLemore
seemed agreeable to accept the funds but asked for a letter from the society
declaring our intentions and our goals.
I provided Mr McLemore with the requested letter, copy attached, and delivered it
to his office on the morning of July 12, 1997.
The purpose of properly disposing of the money was brought about by the fact that,
with the passing of John Baker, there was only one person who has access to the
funds in the bank. We have no vice president. The treasurer now is the only person
who has control of those funds. I do not feel comfortable with this situation. This
was the reason for the meeting on July 3rd.
We, those of us who gathered for the meeting, felt that the best solution was to hand
the money over to the city. I will follow through with this action as soon as I am
contacted by Mr. McLemore and will further advise you.
I sincerely hope that the organization will continue to function and that an election
of officers will take place in the near future.
Sincerely,
ChuckH n
