Winter Springs wants

By Elaine Bennett
OF THE SWI1NIL STIFF
WINTER SPRINGS — City commissioners want
back more than $100,000 the city spent last year to
remove drums of hazardous waste from property it
acquired when it bought Seminole Utilities.
City Attorney Frank Kruppenbacher said last week
. he would take whatever steps are avidlable, Includ-
ing mediation or lawsuits against the utility's former
owners or the engineering consultants, attorneys and
other agents who put the deal together...:.
The city hopes to recoup the moot it spent to
clean up the site and remove$8 drum iof fuel oil dis-
covered in and around an old orange'grove mainte-
nance shed in Tuscawilla.
The shed, which has since been destroyed, was lo-

Samples of the contents revealed;, 50-gallon
drums and several five-gallon bucket*tstained fuel

The city hired GSX Services Inc..of Clearwater to
dispose of the drums. As a precaution, crews also
hauled away top layers of sand near the site, Ro-
zansky said.
Winter Springs became, the owner of the property

Seminole County Expressway Authority subs[quent-

City officials still have not determined why the city
wasn't made aware of the drums before it acquired
the utility from Topeka Group.
Topeka bought the utility as the city negotiated to
buy it from its previous owner, angstrom, the de-
