Cindy Gennell
Commissioner Cindy Gennell won another three years to"keep Winter Springs moving in
the right direction"by continuing to protect the environment and quality of life in the city.
Gennell plans to press for long range planning of the SR 434 commercial corridor and redevel-
opment of the commercial area that already exists;support expanded recreational facilities,
youth programs, and development of the Cross Seminole Trail.
Gennell said she seeks ways to keep taxes at a minimum, expand services, and work with
homeowner associations and neighborhood groups to help them accomplish goals. "We have
tremendous untapped sources within our own communities. Homeowner associations, both
mandatory and non-mandatory,should play a vital role in the life of the city,"she said.
She has served as chair on the council of local governments in Seminole County;vice
chair of intergovernmental relations committee,Florida League of Cities, and as executive
board member,Safehouse of Seminole.
Gennell and her husband Richard, have three children and four grandchildren."This
commission, with my full support and encouragement, conducted a nationwide search and
hired the city's first professional city manager This was an essential first step in planning the
future of our city,"Gennell said.

Michael Blake, the president of a local
securities and investment firm, an-
nounced this week that he is running for
a spot on the Winter Springs Commis-
sion.
Blake, 35, a father of two, is vying for
the seat held by John Ferring. Blake runs
Sunpoint Securities Group based in
Oviedo.
Blake said he is"not enthused with the
direction of the city."
The six-year resident of Chelsea Woods
said his goals are to unify Winter Springs
and to improve communication with resi-
dents. His campaign motto is "One city:
one future."
Many people in Winter Springs believe
the city is divided between Tuscawilla
and the west-side neighborhoods.
Blake said the city cannot prosper un-
less all neighborhoods of the town suc-
ceed.
