Chooses Mascot and Colors
Winter Springs High School invited citizens from throughout Seminole
County to assist in the selection of the new school's mascot and school
colors. Two hundred eighty-nine suggestions for the mascot and 42 sugges-
tions for school colors were received.
Nominations were received from middle school students, high school
students,parents,interested citizens and entire families. Suggestions for the
mascot included the eagle, lightning bolts, raiders, mustangs, cyclones,
warwinds,rip tide,alligators,bobcats,wolverines,vikings,wildcats,spanans,
anglers,bears,warriors,dolphins,wolves,falcons,predators,tsunamis,owls,
barracudas, sun sharks, dynamos, monsoon, mosquitoes and many others.
suggested school colors included combinations of orange,black,navy blue,
burgundy, red, gold,brown,yellow,teal, purple, silver, hunter green,grey,
crimson,white,turquoise,forest green and aquamarine.
After reviewing every nomination,it was decided that the school's mas-
cot will be a bear and the school's colors will be purple and gold.
Mary Johnston, Beverly Dedelow and Kristine Dedelow submitted the
winning entry for the school mascot and Keith Bovaird recommended the new
school colors. Winners will receive a lifetime family pas to all school-spon-
soredacademic,artistic and athletic events held at Winter Springs High School.
