'WHEREAS, mental health is as fundamental as physical health to the overall well -being of all
children, youth, and families; and

HEREAS mental health challenges such as attention deficit disorder, bipolar disorder, depression,

and severe anxiety affect one in every five families in Seminole County; and
' treatment success rates for mental illness com are favorabl to the rates for chronic

physical illness; and
W, HEREAS . mental illness continues to remain shrouded in stigma and discrimination, keeping those

with mental health challenges and their families from seeking care; and increased public awareness of
children's mental health issues may lead to reduced stigma and discrimination and earlier identification
and treatment, resulting in lower health care and correctional costs, increased productivity and stronger
families; and
WHEREAS, Winter Springs recognizes that acceptance, dignity and social inclusion for all, including
children and youth with mental illness, should be promoted throughout our community.
