HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015 03 09 Informational 202 Spring Family Festival COMMISSION AGENDA Informational X Consent ITEM 202 Public Hearings g Regular March 09, 2015 KS CC Regular Meeting City Manager Department REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department wishes to inform the City Commission about the planning efforts for the 2015 Spring Family Festival. SYNOPSIS: The 2015 Spring Family Festival event is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2015 from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the Winter Springs Town Center. Family activities will include live music from "WS Got Talent" winners singing from the entertainment stage, kids games, balloon artists, face painting, car show, food and business vendors. CONSIDERATIONS: • Event is moved back to last weekend in March to better avoid conflicts with Spring break vacations and St. Patrick's Day events. • We have contacted local businesses, community groups and local schools to bring kids and families out to celebrate the start of Spring & encourage outdoor recreational activities. • The car show is back and better than before! Local car club will handle the show. • New location in our town center, just east of Veteran's Memorial in grassy area behind the Magnolia Fountain. • It's a "Spring into Summer" theme with beach balls, sand, surfboards and Kokomo kids area. • Kid's movie in the Park will feature a special presentation of Lilo and Stitch • The Parks and Recreation department continues to meet regularly with the ICS Special Events committee to review, evaluate and discuss new ideas and plans for this year's event. Informational 202 PAGE 1 OF 2- March 09,2015 FISCAL IMPACT: All funds necessary to support our event will be raised through sponsorships, vendor fees and donations. No city tax dollars will be used for the event, other than for budgeted/approved public safety costs. COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: This Agenda Item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney/Staff, and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda Item are typed verbatim on the respective Meeting Agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above, and which is also available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server; has been sent to applicable City Staff, Media/Press Representatives who have requested Agendas/Agenda Item information, Homeowner's Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information. This information has also been posted outside City Hall, posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the General Public, and posted at five (5) different locations around the City. Furthermore, this information is also available to any individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this Agenda Item or any Agenda Item with any interested individuals. RECOMMENDATION: Staff requests the City Commission receive and review the information provided in this Agenda Item.
