Regular Meeting City Manager Department
REQUEST:
The Utility Department wishes to inform the City Commission of the potable and reclaimed
water use for 2014.
SYNOPSIS:
The purpose of this agenda item is to provide the City Commission with data on the potable
and reclaimed water distributed for calendar year 2014.
CONSIDERATIONS:
Potable Water:
In 2014, the City distributed 1,169,860,000 gallons of potable water, which is 10% decrease
in distribution from 2013 and the lowest usage in 22 years. We received 61 inches of
rainfall in 2014; 16 inches more than in 2013. The annual water use in 2014 was 30%
below the St. Johns River Water Management District Consumptive Use Permit allowance
of 1,671,700,000 gallons. Factors contributing to the decreased water demand may include
the economy, empty households, rate elasticity, and an increased awareness of
effective water conservation measures.

which is a decrease of 2% from 2013. Of this total, 515,201,000 gallons were distributed
for the purpose of commercial and residential irrigation, which is an increase of 3.9% from
2013. Also, 248,793,000 gallons were disposed of at the percolation ponds and /or
sprayfields, which is a decrease in disposal of 12.8% from 2013.
