REQUEST:
The Parks and Recreation Department wishes to inform the Parks and Recreation Advisory
Committee about the status of the Shade Structure project at Central Winds Park.
CONSIDERATIONS:
• A selection committee of City staff reviewed the bids submitted and based on a scoring matrix
recommended the award of the contract to KORKAT, Inc. in the amount of$79,110.68 plus 10%
contingency.
• On May 12,the City Commission approved the award of the contract to KORKAT, Inc.
• Permitting is complete and construction began on October 29 for underground footers. Per the
contract, construction must be complete on or before December 8, 2014.
• With the Shade Structure process, the Parks and Recreation Department took bids for new
bleachers. The new bleachers will be 27 feet long and 5 rows high. There will be a guard rail
around rows 3-5 to increase safety. Also,the bleachers will increase seating capacity for each field.
• On July 28, the City Commission approved the award of the bid to Gulf Coast Sports in the
amount of$31,970 which includes shipping and install. The bid also included a shade structure to
go over the bleacher at the t-ball field at Central Winds Park. The new bleachers will be installed
after the shade covers are completed.
FISCAL IMPACT:
• All shade structure and bleachers project costs are utilizing 2014 Parks Impact Fee funds.
RECOMMENDATION:
The Parks and Recreation Department is requesting that the Parks and Recreation Advisory
Committee receive and review the information provided in this Agenda Item.
