REQUEST: The Community Development Department wishes to provide an update to the TLBD
advisory committee in regarding the redesign of the landscaping in the easternmost three median islands
of Winter Springs Boulevard.
SYNOPSIS: The easternmost three median islands of Winter Springs Boulevard have been the subject
of concern by some Tuscawilla residents. These islands constitute the easternmost entrance into
Tuscawilla. Staffis working with residents and the contractor to update these islands with new platings
and the removal of older trees, including older Laurel Oaks.
CONSIDERATIONS:
After consultation with residents, staffis working with the contractor to re-work the three easternmost
islands on Winter Springs Boulevard. This work will include the elimination of the large mulched areas
and the placement of new plant materials in these areas. Several larger Laurel Oaks will be removed and
large Crape Myrtles will be transplanted from other areas of Winter Springs Boulevard to give these
islands an updated and more colorful appearance more befitting the easternmost entrance into
Tuscawilla.
Transplanting of the Crape Myrtles will assist in the revitalization of the subject islands and provide a
new home for healthy trees which are currently located in unsuitable locations along Winter Springs
Boulevard.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This project was funded from the TLBD Phase I debt service fund account.

COMMUNICATION EFFORTS: The Meeting Agenda and this Agenda Item have been forwarded
to the TLBD members and are available on the City's Website,LaserFiche, and the City's Server. The
Agenda has been forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission; City Manager; and City
Attorney/Staff. Additionally, the Meeting Agenda has been sent to media/press representatives, all
Homeowner's Associations on file with the City, all individuals who have requested Agenda
information, Department Directors; and also posted outside City Hall; posted inside City Hall with
additional copies available for the general public.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staffrecommends the TLBD advisory committee review the information contained herein and discuss
any questions they may have with staff.
