Regular Meeting City Manager Department
REQUEST:
The Parks and Recreation Department is providing the Commission with an update on
Senior Transportation Services provided by Lynx over the past year.
SYNOPSIS:
On December 10, 2012, the Commission authorized the City to enter into a contract with
Lynx for Senior Transportation services for Winter Springs residents. This represented
utilization of a new vendor for this service. At that time, staff indicated to the Commission
that it would evaluate the success of this contract over the following year and report back to
the Commission on such.
CONSIDERATIONS:
Key points:
• The City has offered transportation services to our seniors for 11 years.
• This service is offered only to Winter Springs residents.
• In 2012 the Senior Transportation contract cost was $28,511, for service to an
average of 10 seniors per day.
• Effective January 2013, the City changed vendors to Lynx for this service.
• The new Lynx contract annual cost is $15,770, serving an average of 10-12 seniors
per day.
• We solicited feedback from our seniors relative to the service provided by Lynx.
• That feedback indicated that the pick & delivery window has functioned well and
resulted in no problems for our seniors.
• Overall, feedback on the service provided by Lynx has been positive.
• Staff will continue to evaluate this service on an on-going basis.
