Tuscawilla Unit 12 Wall
To Whom It May Concern:
I Jamie Hodges owner of Seminole masonry was asked to assess the brick wall
along Winter Springs Blvd. and Northern way for the city of Winter Springs. We did a
sight visit along the entire perimeter of the wall and have come up with several areas of
concern. The following items below are what the wall is made up of:
• 2990 linear feet long
• 5' to 6' tall along wall
• Built out of 6" brick with a lattice style wall configuration for the structural needs
of wind loads
• No steel in wall or columns
• Dura wall used as the structural integrity of the wall which is the reason for the
mud joints popping out, do to rusting
• No expansion joints along entire wall
• Trees were planted to close to wall that has caused the footer to lift
• 18" columns spaced out 14' on center with no steel in them
• Footers are extremely small measured at 12" wide by 6" thick
• Majority of the wall moves with ease and is very dangerous to the general public
walking along the public sidewalk
Seminole Masonry does not feel that this wall can be fixed enough to sustain
structural integrity for a long period of time. The main reason for this is because the
footer is to small and no steel within the wall at all. There are areas down the wall
that I feel need to come down now before somebody gets hurt. Our company's
recommendation for this project would be to tear it down and replace the whole thing
unfortunately. We do not feel that there is no method available to fix the wall and
stand behind it without wasting money.
We propose the following action of construction for this project:
• Demo existing wall, trees and shrubs within 4' of wall.
• Replace sidewalk along wall mainly because it will get destroyed due to
demo process
• Install a solid 6' utility brick wall with a post tension structural design
with no Dura wall
• 16" columns 40' on center along wall with brick caps
• Install a temporary 6' chain link fence 10' behind existing wall during
wall construction
• Replace Bahia style grass where ever it is disturbed after construction
• No sign walls at entrance ways unless desired
• Fix or replace irrigation on both sides of wall due to demo process
I have attached some pictures of existing conditions of the wall for your review.
Also attached is the engineering of the brick wall that Seminole Masonry would
construct.
Estimated job Value:
$475,000
