WHEREAS, WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA
IIHEREAS, Ovarian Cancer is a serious and under recognized threat to women's health- the
deadliest of the gynecologic cancers; and
YIrHEREAS, according to estimates by the American Cancer Society, more than 21,550
women will be diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2009, and approximately 75% of these cases will be
detected in the advance stages; and
W HEREAS, the American Cancer Society also estimates more than 14,620 women will die
from Ovarian Cancer in the United States in 2009, more than Cervical and Uterine Cancers combined;
and
W HEREAS, the Florida Cancer Data System, the state wide Cancer registry reports 1507 new
Ovarian Cancers on average per year since 2000; and
YY there is cause for increased concern as the population ages because advancing
age is one of the known risk factors for the development of Ovarian Cancer; and
c
IIHEREAS, with early diagnosis and specialized care, survival rates increase dramatically;
and
1(HEREAS, raising public awareness about Ovarian Cancer by educating women, healthcare
professionals and the general public about risks and symptoms of the disease may save women's lives.
Now THEREFORE, I, JOHN F. BUSH, Mayor of the City of Winter Springs, do hereby

in the City of Winter Springs, and call upon all citizens to hereby recognize the efforts of the Ovarian
Cancer Alliance of Florida and to ask our citizens to help observe and promote efforts to further Ovarian
Cancer Awareness.
