W HEREAS, an estimated 10 million people in the United States have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia — that is 6 to 8 percent
of the population of our country and millions of people worldwide a disease for which there is no known cause or cure; and
WHEREAS Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain disorder becoming an increasingly common diagnosis and taking a toll emotionally,

financially and socially on patients, their family, friends, co- workers and community; and patients with this illness often have to
live with widespread pain throughout their bodies, extreme fatigue, sleep disorders, stiffness and weakness, migraine headaches,
numbness and tingling, impairment of memory and concentration; and

IIHEREAS, the chronically ill place a larger burden on the health care and insurance industries and businesses that must cover
the costly expenses associated with their treatment, medications and sometimes hospitalizations; and society as a whole is also
impacted when patients are physically unable to work and must depend on the government assistance to survive; and
W HEREAS, people with Fibromyalgia face discrimination in the workplace and from family and friends because so few people
are aware or understand what Fibromyalgia is and the symptoms it manifests; and
W HEREAS, increased awareness and expanded knowledge of the realities of life with Fibromyalgia will allow the community
WHERE large to better support people who struggle with the challenges of this chronic pain disorder; and
IIHEREAS, ibromyalgia Outreach Corporation of Central Florida and other groups around the country have joined together to
promote Fibromyalgia awareness and support including education, diagnose, treatment, and research; and
W HEREAS, the communities focus on Fibromyalgia and its impact on patients lives will guarantee hope for a better future for
people suffering from this disease;
NOW THEREFORE, I, CHARLES LACEY, Mayor of the City of Winter Springs do hereby Proclaim May 12 2011, as
"FIBROMYALGIA AWARENESS DAY"
in the City of Winter Springs, Florida, and I urge all citizens to support the search for a cure and assist individuals and families
who deal with devastating disease on a daily basis.
