REQUEST:
The Police Department wishes to update the Commission on the City's red light traffic
safety program.
SYNOPSIS:
The purpose of this agenda item is to update the Commission about the current status of the
City's red light camera safety program.
CONSIDERATIONS:
On June 28, 2010, the Police Department informed the Commission that the City would be
pursuing a month -to -month contract term with the city's current vendor, American Traffic
Solutions (ATS), for the purposes of maintaining the City's red light camera program and
equipment, and to allow staff to evaluate our continued relationship with ATS vs. other
options. Since that time, the city has been operating with ATS on these terms. After much
consideration and analysis, the Police Department feels that as a result of the introduction of
better technology and the availability of more vendors entering this arena we have decided
to end our contract with ATS in order to look at more beneficial options for the program
going forward.
On December 1, 2011, we provided ATS with the required 30 -day notice that we would be
discontinuing services with them. Using the City's purchasing policy, we will be soliciting
new vendors for this program and will take all steps necessary to ensure a quality service
product and stable customer service platform. A major factor in future decisions will be the
availability of new technology and expandability of technology to improve safety city -wide
