SYNOPSIS: This year, the Police Department completed the processing through the Florida Department of Transportation for Grant Assistance during 2012. The total amount requested was $51,592, however, we were unsuccessful in obtaining this award. CONSIDERATIONS: On March 31, 2011, the Police Department submitted three grant concept papers to the Florida Department of Transportation. The areas that were targeted and a synopsis of each are as follows: • Impaired Driving — Prevention — DUI Enforcement Vehicle This vehicle and officer will work during peak times that DUI's can occur. The grant request will specifically be for a vehicle at $39,500. • Police Traffic Services — Training — DUI Instructor This officer will be sent to training in all the current aspects of DUI situations and impart this knowledge and training to other members of the agency. The grant request is for $5,092. • Speed Control — Enforcement Counter Measures — Solar Powered Pole Mounted Radar Informational 103 PAGE 1 OF 2 - November 14, 2011 Speed Sign This self contained product will be placed to deter speed infractions and document traffic speeds in general. The grant request is for $7,000. On September 6, 2011 the Police Department received notice from the Florida Department of Transportation that they will not be able to fund our requests at this time and we can reapply later for the 2013 funding. While applying for the grants, we provided traffic enforcement and safety statistics from years past. As such, we ranked low on a scale of grant fund needs. Our proactive approach to traffic enforcement has at times been the cause of a low ranking. We will, however, reapply in 2012 for the FY 2013 budget. FISCAL IMPACT: These potential grant revenues and related expenditures were not included in the FY 2012 Budget pending a decision on award. Therefore, there is no fiscal impact on the FY 2012 Budget relative to this agenda item.
