Tolleson Retirement COMMISSION AGENDA CONSENT X ITEM 209 INFORMATIONAL PUBLIC HEARING REGULAR MGR /DEPT _____ June 27, 2011 Regular Meeting Authorization REQUEST : The Police Department requests the City Commission review and approve Resolution 2011-32 recognizing the retirement of Police Department employee Capt. Glenn E. Tolleson. _______________________________________________________________________ SYNOPSIS : The City Commission is very appreciative of all of the employees who faithfully serve the citizens and City Commission of Winter Springs. For long-serving employees, the City Commission has expressed their interest in presenting these employees with a Resolution at a City Commission meeting. In such cases, a Resolution is submitted to the City commission on the Consent Agenda for approval. Upon approval by the City Commission, the applicable employee is either presented with the Resolution at the time same City Commission meeting during the Awards and Presentations or they attend a future City Commission meeting to receive their Resolution. CONSIDERATIONS : Captain Glenn Tolleson began his career with the Winter Springs Police Department on June 26, 1986. During his employment as a police officer, Glenn faithfully and diligently served in many different divisions of the police department including Operations, Criminal Investigations, and the Narcotics Unit. Glenn was promoted to through the ranks attaining the positions of Detective in 1988, Sergeant in 1991, Lieutenant in 1992, and eventually to Captain in 1994 where he currently serves as the Code Enforcement Bureau Commander. Capt. Tolleson has served as a commander in nearly every bureau in the department. Over the years, Capt. Tolleson has been a friend and dedicated member of the Winter Springs Police Department and familiar face to the community in which he lives and raises his family. He is retiring with a total of nearly 27 years in law enforcement. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with approval of this resolution. City Commission – Regular Meeting June 27, 2011 Consent Agenda Item #209 Page 2 of 2 COMMUNICATIONS EFFORTS: This Agenda item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney/Staff, and all e-alert/e- citizen recipients and is available on the City’s website, Laserfiche, and the City’s server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda item are typed verbatim on the respective meeting agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above; and which is also available on the city’s website, Laserfiche, and the City’s server; has been sent to City staff, media/press representatives who have requested Agendas or Agenda item information, Homeowner’s Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information; and has been posted outside City Hall; posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the general public, and posted at five (5) different locations around the city. This Agenda item is also available to any new individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this or any Agenda item with any interested individuals. : RECOMMENDATIONS It is recommended that the City Commission approve Resolution Number 2011-32 in honor of Police Department employee Capt. Glenn Tolleson and his 25 years of dedicated service to the City of Winter Springs. WHEREAS, GLENN TOLLESON has proudly given the residents of Winter Springs 25 years of distinguished service with the Winter Springs Police Department; and WHEREAS, GLENN TOLLESON moved to the City of Winter Springs and joined the City of Winter Springs on June 26, 1986 as a Police Officer with the Police Department; and WHEREAS, GLENN TOLLESON has loyally served in several areas of the police department including as a patrol officer and criminal investigator, and narcotics officer, eventually climbing through the ranks to Sergeant, Lieutenant, and eventually to Captain where he has served since 1994; and WHEREAS, GLENN TOLLESON has directly contributed to the professional development and expansion of the Winter Springs Police Department through his work and diligence as a senior staff member, contributing to the improvement of the community in which he lives through his extensive work in the Code Enforcement Bureau. Now THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Winter Springs, Florida as follows: SECTION I — That the Mayor and Commission, City Manager, and Staff of the City of Winter Springs upon the occasion of GLENN TOLLESON'S retirement takes great pleasure to recognize and honor him for his unselfish level of dedication and distinguished service to the residents of Winter Springs through his employment with the Winter Springs Police Department. SECTION II — That this Resolution commending the services of GLENN TOLLESON be recorded upon the official Public Records and Minutes of this City Commission of the City of Winter Springs, Florida.
