David R. Smith. _______________________________________________________________________ SYNOPSIS : The City Commission is very appreciative of all of the employees who faithfully serve the citizens and City Commission of Winter Springs. For long-serving employees, the City Commission has expressed their interest in presenting these employees with a Resolution at a City Commission meeting. In such cases, a Resolution is submitted to the City commission on the Consent Agenda for approval. Upon approval by the City Commission, the applicable employee is either presented with the Resolution at the time same City Commission meeting during the Awards and Presentations or they attend a future City Commission meeting to receive their Resolution. CONSIDERATIONS : David R. Smith started his employment with the City of Winter Springs Police Department on October 27, 1997 as an officer, progressing to the rank of Corporal. During his career with the Winter Springs Police Department, Cpl. Smith has had numerous assignments including, Uniform Patrol, School Resource Officer, Accreditation Manager, Community Relations, Mounted Patrol, Honor Guard, and the ATV unit. Cpl. Smith is always available to lend a helping hand and his contributions to the city have been numerous. Corporal Smith’s last day with the City will be June 30, 2011, capping a total of 39 years in law enforcement. His daily presence at the Police Department will be missed. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with approval of this resolution. COMMUNICATIONS EFFORTS: This Agenda item has been electronically forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission, City Manager, City Attorney/Staff, and all e-alert/e- City Commission – Regular Meeting June 27, 2011 Consent Agenda Item #204 Page 2 of 2 citizen recipients and is available on the City’s website, Laserfiche, and the City’s server. Additionally, portions of this Agenda item are typed verbatim on the respective meeting agenda which has also been electronically forwarded to the individuals noted above; and which is also available on the city’s website, Laserfiche, and the City’s server; has been sent to City staff, media/press representatives who have requested Agendas or Agenda item information, Homeowner’s Associations/Representatives on file with the City, and all individuals who have requested such information; and has been posted outside City Hall; posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the general public, and posted at five (5) different locations around the city. This Agenda item is also available to any new individual requestors. City Staff is always willing to discuss this or any Agenda item with any interested individuals. : RECOMMENDATIONS It is recommended that the City Commission approve Resolution Number 2011-21 in honor of Police Department employee Cpl. David R. Smith and his 14 years of dedicated service to the City of Winter Springs. Now THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Commission of the City of Winter Springs, Florida as follows: SECTION I — That the Mayor and Commission, City Manager, and Staff of the City of Winter Springs upon the occasion of DAVID SMITH'S retirement takes great pleasure to recognize and honor him for his uncommon level of distinguished service to the residents of Winter Springs through his employment with the Winter Springs Police Department. SECTION II — That this Resolution commending the services of DAVID SMITH be recorded upon the official Public Records and Minutes of this City Commission of the City of Winter Springs, Florida. SECTION III — That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to DAVID SMITH with our sincerest thanks for his many contributions.
