REQUEST: The Parks and Recreation Department wishes to inform the City Commission
of the results of the recent Department of Health Senior Center Therapy Pool
State Inspection report.
SYNOPSIS: The purpose of this item is to inform the City Commission of the results of
the recent Department of Health Senior Center Therapy Pool State Inspection
report and recent Therapy Pool operational Improvements.
CONSIDERATIONS:
• In October, 2010, members expressed concerns regarding cleanliness of the pool. After
staff evaluation it was discovered that pool maintenance operations were not being done
regularly by Therapy Pool staff Therefore, a state health inspection was requested.
• Staff reassignments were made. New staff was responsible for maintenance operations of
the pool.
• Significant improvements were made in water clarity and cleanliness of the Therapy
Pool.
• The Department of Health performed a routine unscheduled inspection of the Senior
Center Therapy Pool on May 10, 2011.
• We passed inspection with an A+ and received positive comments from the health
inspector regarding water chemical levels and the cleanliness of the locker rooms.
• To eliminate the rust on the metal handrails we will be changing out metal handrails to
durable plastic handrails.
• In addition to these improvements, we have streamlined the registration process, made
facility improvements, installed safety mats, established a monthly newsletter, volunteer
recognition program, and encouraged citizen input through monthly meetings to the
satisfaction of our members.
