MEMORANDUM
22 March 2011
From: Arthur W. Gallo, Member, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee
To: Winter Springs Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee
Via Ms. Gayle Coutant, Assistant to the Winter Springs City Clerk
Subject: Proposed Winter Springs Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee
Agenda Item — Lacrosse/Soccer Practice Rebound Wall
1.) I respectfully submit the attached binder containing information on a
Lacrosse/Soccer practice rebound wall as a proposed agenda item for the
Winter Springs Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee as a discussion
item for possible implementation at Central Winds Park in the future.
2.) Subject rebound wall is 32 feet long and 14 feet high, with a 5 foot chain link
fence or web netting on the top bringing the total height of the wall to 15 feet.
The wall pictured in the binder is made from fiberglass "I" beams and wood,
but can be constructed of other materials such as cinder block.
3.) The wall simulates the exact sizes of a Lacrosse goal as well as a Soccer goal.
The fence or netting on the top of the wall acts as a protective barrier for
errant shots on the simulated goals.
4.) The wall could also be designed for use on both sides in order to maximize
the use of available space as well as increasing the number of players that can
use it at one tune.
5.) The purpose of the wall is to act as a rebounding wall for any soccer or
lacrosse players to use in order to enhance their ball- handling skills. The
wall will allow players to practice ball- handling skill drills either on their
own or with teammates,
6.) Location of the wall to be determined by Staff, but an example of an area to
place the practice wall would be in between expansion fields "G" and "I and
H" as both lacrosse and soccer teams practice on these fields.
7.) An example of this rebound wall is pictured in this binder. Another example
of the type of wall (a smaller version made from cement cinder blocks) can be
found at Sylvan Lake Park in Sanford.
8.) Cost is TBD and would be determined by things such as the type of materials
used to build the wall, its size, if one or two sides are constructed for use,
paint scheme /type, and its final engineering design and strength.
Thank you for your consideration.
