I am writing you in regards to the upcoming workshop on the pension 12 April 2011. As a public servant
and a long time member of the Winter Springs Family for the past 25 years. We always treat you our
citizens like our family because that is the way we would want to be treated.
Over the past several years we have went without raises due to one reason or another. The past two
years we actually voted to forgo our raises knowing that others in the community were suffering. We
were thankful that we still had jobs and were able to work overtime to help offset the loss of wages.
Overtime, as you know is not a gift. You put in the hours and sacrifice not only the time away from your
family but, wear and tear on you personally to make ends meet. Overtime is time worked for
compensation earned and therefore, as compensation should be used for the average final
compensation calculation.
If I were to retire right now with no raises and overtime not added in the calculation I would be retiring
at 2003 levels. With no COLAS or insurance benefits this would be a disaster not a retirement.
As a long time member of the Winter Springs Family and now with the County. I have been working
towards retirement confident with the deal I have made with the City and its administrators. To change
the deal at this stage of our careers seems very unfair and dishonorable. I hope you will take a good
look at us and treat us the way you would want to be treated just as we have always done.
Thank all of you for your consideration and may God Bless
David Myers, Battalion Chief
