REQUEST: The Utility Department is providing information to the City Commission on the
upcoming Water Conservation Day that will be held at City Hall on Saturday,
April 2 2011 from 9am to Noon.
SYNOPSIS: The City will host a Water Conservation Day on Saturday, April 2 " from 9am -12pm
in the City Hall Lobby and Chambers. Water Conservation Day will provide an
opportunity for residents of Winter Springs to learn more about the benefits of water
conservation, why it is important, and what the City offers to assist our residents in
conserving water.
CONSIDERATIONS:
The City Water Conservation Coordinator will present an overview of water conservation methods
and technology and provide information on the City's conservation program. Guest speakers will
present information on topics including water harvesting and rain barrel construction, maintaining a
water efficient Florida lawn, native landscaping, and more. Vendors will be present in the lobby to
answer questions and offer services pertaining to water conservation, including irrigation design and
Florida friendly landscaping. Activity stations will be set up for the children and will include an
aquifer model, water related science experiments, and edible aquifers. Prizes, such as rain sensors,
water conservation kits, and a year of professional organic or traditional lawn treatment will be
raffled at the event.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Vendors will provide items and/or services to be raffled at the event free of charge. Up to fifty
dollars may be used to purchase items to be used for the children's activities.

COMMUNICATION EFFORTS:
This Agenda Item has been forwarded to the Mayor and City Commission; City Manager; City
Attorney /Staff; placed in Press Packets; placed in the City Hall (Lobby) City Commission Meeting
binder; and is available on the City's Website, LaserFiche, and the City's Server.
Further, information related to this Agenda Item has been sent to media/press representatives who
have requested Agendas /Agenda Item information, all Homeowner's Associations on file with the
City, all individuals who have requested Agendas /Agenda Item information, Department Directors;
and also posted outside City Hall; posted inside City Hall with additional copies available for the
general public; and posted at five (5) different locations around the City.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff requests the City Commission review and accept the information provided in this Agenda
Item.
