SYNOPSIS: The purpose of this item is to inform the City Commission regarding the
results of the 2011 Scottish Highland Games Special Event.
CONSIDERATIONS:
• This year the Scottish American Society of Central Florida conducted its 34 Annual
Scottish Highland Games at Central Winds Park over 2 days (Saturday and Sunday). The
event organizer commented that this year's event was the most successful Highland
Games held in Winter Springs.
• Record attendance of 18K -20K was estimated
• At the City's and Town Center business owner's request, the Scottish American Society
performed at our "Highland Gathering Event" with live entertainment from the
Windbreakers and a Pipe Band. The cost of entertainment was $2900 and was paid for by
the Scottish Highland Games. The City agreed to pay the Public Safety costs for the
Thursday Highland Gathering in the amount of $616. The weather was very cold and
attendance was minimal. We will evaluate a different plan for next year's event.
• All City Departments worked together to provide excellent service to our Scottish
partners, vendors, rental companies to assist with set up & clean up of event.
• David Henderson, Chiefton of Clan Henderson of North Carolina, who was our invited
dignitary announcer; this was his first time at our event. See his letter. (Attachment "A ")
• Scottish Clans (Family Heritage) attendance came from all over Florida to event.
• Post event evaluation meeting was held on January 25 with City officials. City
departments demonstrated excellent teamwork & cooperation assisting the event
organizer. Next year's Scottish Highland Games will be on January 14 -15, 2012.

Gentlemen:
On behalf of Clan Henderson this is to thank you for the honor bestowed on
it as the honored clan at the recent games. I am reporting this to the chief,
Alistair Donald Henderson of Brisbane, Australia; and 1 am sure that he will
be very pleased as welL
You treated myself and my wife like royalty. We are grateful also for the
gifts which we received including wine and fruit delivered to our hotel
room.
The game was very well organized and very well run and everyone I talked
with was very impressed with the professionalism shown in the course of
the activities. We enjoyed meeting all of the personnel involved in the
game.
We concluded that this was a very friendly game and concluded that it is
now one of our very favorites. We are already making plans to return next
year
Again, thank you for all your courtesies and for the honor.
Yours aye,
7J ii
David . Henderson
