I find it particularly difficult to understand how a basic tree-maintenance request has become such a drawn-out issue, especially when the City has successfully handled this exact tree in the past. The Canary Palm was trimmed beautifully in 2022 and again in 2024. Those previous jobs were completed properly and without the prolonged back-and-forth that I am experiencing this year. This year, however, the situation has been completely different. The tree was only partially trimmed, leaving what appears to be a half-finished job. I have now spent approximately a month corresponding with the City simply trying to get the work completed. What should have been a routine maintenance request has turned into an unnecessarily frustrating process. This raises a larger concern for me as a taxpayer and resident: How is the City allocating and managing the substantial amount of money it spends on trees and landscaping? If significant public funds are being devoted to tree maintenance, I believe residents have a reasonable expectation that routine work will be completed thoroughly, efficiently, and to an appropriate standard. I am not asking for anything extraordinary. I am asking for the same level of care that the City provided in 2022 and 2024. The previous work demonstrated that the City is capable of maintaining this tree properly. I simply cannot understand why a straightforward request this year has resulted in an incomplete job and a month of correspondence to try to have it finished. I respectfully ask the Commission to look into this situation and, more importantly, to consider whether the City’s current processes for responding to routine tree-maintenance requests are working as they should. Residents should not have to repeatedly follow up for weeks to get a basic maintenance job completed—particularly when the work has been done correctly in the past. Please finish the trimming of this Canary Palm and provide some accountability for why such a simple request has become such a prolonged issue. I would also appreciate greater transparency regarding the City’s tree-maintenance expenditures and the standards and procedures used to ensure that contracted or City-performed work is completed properly. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope the Commission will view this not simply as an isolated complaint about one tree, but as an opportunity to examine how public resources are being used and how residents’ routine requests are being handled. Please include this in Public Comments at the next Commission meeting as I am unable to attend, and would like this to be in public records. Respectfully, Deborah Dwyer 1016 Taproot Drive
