Position Summary:
Under executive direction from the Chief of Police, performs highly responsible work assisting the
Chief with the directing, planning, organization, and all operational aspects of the Police
Department including basic law enforcement functions as needed. This employee assists with the
overall management and leadership of personnel to include review of employee concerns in order
to identify critical department needs and to maintain a positive work environment and morale of
the workforce. This employee will evaluate employees to advance their professional growth,
enforce matters of discipline where applicable, and to counsel employees on performance matters.
The overall safety, welfare, and the security of lives and property are key functions of this position.
1. Assists with planning, organization, and implementing department goals, objectives, and
projects; assists the Chief of Police with policy direction, changes, and implementation of
those policies; provides guidance and direction to subordinate staff members.
2. Supervises and evaluates subordinate staff to ensure personnel are carrying out the
department's mission and goals; works to ensure programs for law enforcement and crime
prevention are carried out according to direction from the Chief.
3. Oversees the daily operations of the department's subcomponents, including technical
functions as assigned, including department records, police activity, personnel
management, communications, and administrative support.
4. Oversees the organization and appropriate assignment of police work to personnel as
directed by department needs while maximizing efficiency and effectiveness; assists with
the hiring of new personnel; development and implementation of training for all personnel
relative to job function; enforces department and city rules, policy, and regulations as
needed; initiates disciplinary matters as needed.
S. Reviews, prioritizes, disseminates, and approves administrative, management, and
investigative reports.
6. Assists the Chief of Police in planning and developing organizational procedures and
policies.
7. Evaluates appropriate response to high -priority emergency incidents and notifies the Chief
of Police accordingly.
8. Serve as a department media spokesperson as dictated by need and acts as a liaison for the
department while interacting with the community and other local police departments.
9. Assists the Chief of Police with the preparation and implementation of the department's
budget and recommends capital improvements as needed.

10. Directs the City's response and reaction to natural or man-made disaster incidents as the
emergency management coordinator.
11. Performs the basic police duties of those subordinate personnel under their command.
12. Regular in -person attendance during city and department business hours is required since
face-to-face interaction and coordination of work with other employees, outside colleagues,
residents, or vendors, and all immediate access to documents or other information located
only in the workplace.
13. In the absence of the Police Chief, the Deputy Police Chief of Police will oversee the police
department's daily functions.
Minimum Requirements:
Associate's Degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or related field supplemented by ten years of
progressively advanced law enforcement experience, to include five years of experience in a closely
related position of command -level law enforcement supervisory assignment or an equivalent
combination ofjob-related education, training, and experience.
Expert -level knowledge of law enforcement criminal laws, city codes, legal procedures, and
associated policies. Experience desired in managing different aspects of law enforcement,
including administrative support facets, operations, criminal investigations, and emergency
management operations.
Command of the English language and an expert, polished communication ability (writing,
grammar, spelling, etc.).
The position requires FDLE law enforcement certification consistent with FDLE hiring policies for
law enforcement officers or cross -over candidates.
Valid Florida Driver's License or obtained within the requirements of Florida laws after obtaining
the position.
NIMS ICS-100 and ICS-700 within six months of employment, as these classes provide a baseline
understanding of those situations encountered in an Emergency Operations Center environment
and a platform for further NIMS training.
Southern Police Institute Command Officer's Development Course or the Federal Bureau of
Investigation's National Academy or equivalent advanced management training preferred.
Working Hours and Environment:
This position is based on an 80-hour pay period and qualifies as "exempt." While performing the
basic functions of this position, the employee may be regularly required to handle extensive
standing, stooping, walking, use of hands to feel or handle objects, reaching with arms, climbing or
balancing, kneeling, crouching, or crawling and lifting or move objects up to 25 pounds.
This function will also involve the intermittent performance of extremely physically demanding
work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching,
running, climbing, and the lifting, pushing, manipulation, and carrying of extremely heavy objects

in excess of 200+ pounds, such as in the apprehension of or chasing/subduing suspects resisting
arrests.
Some job tasks may involve the intermittent exposure to the elements including heat, cold,
humidity, inclement weather, loud noise; toxic/chemical agents, electrical currents, pathogens,
violent behavior, weapons, explosives, animals, and traffic. Tasks include working around moving
parts, vehicles, equipment, carts, and materials handling where heightened awareness to
surroundings and environment is essential to the preservation of life or property. Standard body
gear and equipment applies in the preservation of life and property, as does special equipment
based on assignment including body armor and safety gear.
