May 11, 2026 — 11e30 a.m.
Present: Commissioner Marl< Caruso, Lynne Moore, Marlene Merritt,
Nancy Conley, and Bob Conley.
The following issues and concerns were discussed during the
meeting regarding the Senior Center Therapy Pool:
• Mechanical issues continue to affect classes and open swim. The
dehumidifier has reportedly not been operating for approximately
four weeks, creating ongoing interruptions and concerns within
the pool area. Additionally, the exterior doors to the pool area
remain open throughout the day despite being marked as fire exits
only, which raises potential safety concerns.
• Water temperature concerns were discussed. The temperature does
not appear to consistently meet the range stated in the Senior
Center Therapy Pool information online, which indicates the water
should be maintained between 92 and 95 degrees.
• Concerns were also raised regarding pool cleanliness and water
clarity. It was shared that two doctors have reportedly declined
to sign required Medical Waiver Forms due to concerns involving:
Lack of visible proof or documentation of daily cleaning
procedures.
Failure to maintain the advertised therapeutic water temperature.
A question was also raised regarding whether a professional pool
maintenance company is currently servicing the facility and
whether an active contract exists for those services.
• The need for additional instructors for scheduled classes was
discussed. Members expressed frustration over inconsistent
attendance by volunteer instructors and the lack of communication
when classes are canceled. It was suggested that compensating
instructors may improve reliability and allow for substitute
coverage when necessary.
Members also expressed concern that participants should not be
responsible for locating instructors or discovering schedule
changes on their own. Improved communication from administration
regarding cancellations and schedule updates was requested.
• A reminder was made to ask why Senior insurance wellness
programs, such as Silver Sneakers, are not currently accepted to
help offset membership costs for seniors.
Thank you again for your time, concern, and willingness to help
address the issues being experienced at the Senior Center Therapy
Pool. We appreciate your attention to these matters and look
forward to continued discussion and resolution.
