WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Charles H. Buehring, United States Army, dedicated his life to the service of the United States of
America, serving with honor, courage, professionalism, and distinction; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Buehring was raised in Winter Springs, returned to his boyhood home with his family, and was part
of a local community that remembers not only his service to our nation, but the family, neighbors, classmates, teachers, and friends
whose lives were touched by his; and
WHEREAS, at the time of his death, Lieutenant Colonel Buehring's wife and children were living in our community, reminding us
that the cost of service is carried not only by those in uniform, but also by the families who love and support them; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Buehring served as an operations officer with the 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division, providing
leadership and mission support during a challenging and consequential time in our nation's history; and
WHEREAS, on October 26, 2003, during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Lieutenant Colonel Buehring was killed in action in Baghdad,
Iraq, by a rocket attack on the Al Rashid Hotel while carrying out his duties in service to our nation; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Buehring was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, and the United States Military
named Camp Buehring in Kuwait in his honor; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Buehring's life reflects the very best of Winter Springs and the values of duty, honor, faith, family,
courage, and service; and
WHEREAS, as Memorial Day approaches, it is fitting that the City of Winter Springs pause to honor Lieutenant Colonel Charles
H. Buehring and all fallen service members whose sacrifices have protected the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Kevin McCann, Mayorofthe City of Winter Springs, Florida on behalf of the City Commission and the
residents of Winter Springs, do hereby honor and remember:
Lieutenant Colonel Charles H. Buehring, United States Army
in the City of Winter Springs and call upon all residents to reflect with gratitude on his life, his service, his family, and
his ultimate sacrifice.
