Why do we need stronger network security? · To keep our data safe and ensure that no one will be able to enter our system and destroy, manipulate or copy our data · To keep unauthorized users out · To prohibit hackers from using our network resources to their advantage . Where are the potential exposures? · Email (open port in firewall) · Internet (open port in firewall) · Extranets used for vendor support (open port in firewall) · Viruses - destructive or not · Spyware - can be used to capture sensitive information or passwords which are sent back to the author of the spyware which can be used to gain access to our network resources Security (continued) . What are we asking for? · Pix Firewall . Updated and supported gateway services · Creation of DMZ . Additional layers of protection between internal LAN and outside world . Ability to create secure VPN (Virtual Private Networks) access, FTP site . Allow future services to be developed such as WebMail and offsite backup replication · SMS (Systems Management Server) . Timely updates/patches pushed out to clients · Network Monitoring & Intrusion Systems Network Upgrades .
