REQUEST: Community Development Department requests that the City Commission consider
temporary signage for Famous Uncle AI's Hot Dogs shop at Building No.9,
within the JDC Calhoun Town Center site.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this Agenda Item is for the City Commission to consider 2
temporary signs proposed for Famous Uncle AI's Hot Dogs.
The Town Center Code states that "All signs shall be subject to a Discretionary
Aesthetic Appropriateness Review by the DRC in order that all signs are
consistent and in harmony with the Winter Springs Town Center."
CONSIDERA TION:
Famous Uncle AI's is proposing 2 types of temporary signage in conjunction with their grand
opening. One is a 2' x 10' banner, to be attached to the awning on either side of the building for
a maximum of 14 consecutive calendar days, as provided by Section 20-470 (16). The second is
a free-standing sign, some of which have been observed in the Town Center. These free-standing
signs are prohibited by Section 16-57 and Subsection 20-470 (14) (g).
APPLICABLE CODE:
Section 16 - 57. Prohibited Signs
Section 20 - 470. Signs
Section 20 - 327. Architectural guidelines.

RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of the banner sign (to be attached to Building No.9) for a maximum
of 14 consecutive calendar days, pursuant to Section 20-470, but recommends denial of the
proposed free-standing signage, since it is inconsistent with Code.
