REQUEST:
The Public Works Department, Beautification Division, and The Parks and
Recreation Department are notifying the City Commission of the status of
National Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program applications.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this item is to update the City Commission on the status of
the grant applications.
CONSIDERATIONS:
. On August 23, 2004, the Commission approved submission of (3) Forestry Grants for
New Position Funding, Rights-of-Way Tree Planting on Winter Springs Boulevard, and a
Parks Tree Inventory Program.
. On November 1,2004, Staff was provided the following status on the grant applications:
o Urban Tree Planting Program - Approved program cost of $ 17,765.00 with a
50% match from the City of Winter Springs, making the grant valued at
$ 8882.50.
o Forestry Worker - Approved program cost of$ 32,000.00 for one year with a 50%
match from the City of Winter Springs, making the grant valued at $ 16,000.00.
Funding for up to (2) additional years will be available, if selected.
o Parks Tree Inventory - Program was not chosen for funding at this time.
FUNDING:
The City of Winter Springs 50% match will come from Beautification salaries line code
(4411-51210) for the Forestry Worker Grant and TLBD maintenance line code (184-54682) for
the Tree Planting Program.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
None Required.
IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE:
September 2005
Final approval and posting of grant award and execution of agreement.
Employment of Staff Forestry Worker
Installation of trees on Winter Springs Boulevard, Rights-of-Way,
for the Tree Planting Program.
Grant funded projects must be completed.
