REQUEST: The Fire Department is requesting that the City Commission approve a
supplemental appropriation in the amount of $40,000 to rehabilitate Fire
Station 24 and Station 26 from General Fund Reserves and the Medical
Transport Fund Balance.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is to approve replacement of carpeting, restroom/shower
tiling and repaint the interior of both fire stations that are deteriorated and to provide
the necessary funding equally from the General Fund Reserves and the Medical
Transport Fund Balance.
CONSIDERATION:
The carpeting, which has been in place at Fire Station 24 for over 11 years, and the carpeting
at Fire Station 26 for 9 years is in desperate need of replacing. The interior of both buildings
have not been repainted during the same period and needs to be redone. Finally, the
bathroom and shower tile area at Fire Station 24 is 30 years old and needs to be completely
redone, including some interior wall modifications to accommodate both male and female
employees. The cost estimates include a 10% contingency for cost overruns and multiple
vendors will be utilized to accomplish these maintenance projects.

FUNDING: A total of$ 40,000 is requested to complete these projects, $20,000 from General
Fund Reserves and $20,000 from the Medical Transport Fund Balance.

RECOMMENDATION:
The Fire Department is recommending that the City Commission approve a supplement in the
amount of $40,000 including $20,000 from the General Fund Reserves and $20,000 from the
Medical Transport Fund Balance to rehabilitate both Fire Stations 24 and 26.
IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE:
Upon approval by the City Commission, the work will begin immediately after the purchasing
procedures are completed. All work is scheduled to be completed within 60 to 90 days.
