REQUEST: The Fire Department is requesting the City Commission accept grant funds from the
American Heart Association and to approve expenditure of funds to purchase
emergency medical equipment.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this Commission item is to inform the Commission that a grant for
$4,167 has been received from the American Heart Association with the sole purpose
to purchase emergency medical equipment.
CONSIDERATIONS:
The American Heart Association (AHA) has informed the Fire Department that they
have received a local foundation grant for the placement of AEDs (Automatic External
Defibrillator) in first-responder vehicles. AHA has allocated two (2) AEDs and
training material to the Winter Springs Fire Department and ten (10) additional AEDs
to other Fire Departments within Seminole County. The AEDs with training material
will cost approximately $4,167, and the Fire Department is requesting acceptance of
these grant funds and a supplemental appropriation for the purchase of this equipment.
The AEDs will be placed in service in the Battalion Chiefs vehicle and the
Emergency Medical Services Division Chiefs vehicle.
FUNDING:
The funds will be deposited in the Medical Transport Services Fund and will be made
available to purchase the described equipment in the Equipment-General Line Code in
Fund 170-64000.

RECOMMENDATION:
Recommend acceptance of the grant funds and subsequent purchase of two (2) AEDs
and training equipment.
IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE:
Funds were deposited upon receipt and equipment will be purchased in the next 90
days.
