Authorization
REQUEST: The Public Works Department recommends the removal of trees located at City Hall
that are currently a maintenance problem due to health and location.
PURPOSE: Inform Commission of plan for removal and replacement of trees at City Hall and
future landscaping.
CONSIDERA TIONS:
1)
There are (5) oak trees at City Hall causing damage to the roof and
drainage system. All trees are in close proximity to the building and as a
result, leaves are collecting on the roof in key locations which has
contributed to recent leaks at City Hall. Additionally, root systems are
intetfering with drainage piping which is vital in evacuation of water
from the rooftop. At least (2) trees are infected with mistletoe (a
parasite) .
The RO.W.S. Board and Urban Beautification Coordinator have
developed a plan for new landscaping. The plan consists of (2) Phases:
Phase 1 - Remove (5) Oak trees and install (7) Queen palm, (3)
Ligustrum trees, (5) Dahoon holly, (2) Magnolia tree and (1) Red oak
tree. Phase 2 - Remove dated plants and install new landscaping
according to the attached plan.
