National Pharmaceutical Stockpile (NPS)
Strategic National Stockpile (SNS)
OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAM
./ Created in the 1980's
./ Activated on September 11, 2001with partial shipment to New
York City
./ Each County in Florida must have a plan to receive and distribute
the Stockpile
./ County Health Departments are responsible for the "Clinical
Flow"
v' County Emergency Management offices are responsible for
coordinating non-clinical issues, such as logistics support and
security
./ It is possible that the demand for staffing and other resources
could exceed that of county government. Municipalities may be
requested to assist in establishing or staffing Points of
Dispensing (POD)
./ In Seminole County, public schools are the most likely location
for PODs
./ PODs could require as many as 25 support staff on duty at a
time:
o Traffic direction
o Public reception, registration and awareness activities
o Custodial services
o Volunteer Coordinator
o POD manager
