REQUEST: City Manager requesting the City Commission to approve Resolution Number 2005-
42 requesting FDOT to support the economic success of the SR 434 Redevelopment Overlay
Zoning District by re-evaluating the placement of allowable U-turns, acquiring any needed Right
of Way to allow pedestrian sidewalks to be installed behind the new traffic signal mast arms, and
installing controlled left turn traffic signals at the intersections of Moss Road and SR 434, and
Edgemon Avenue and SR 434.
PURPOSE: This agenda item is needed to provide the FDOT with the City's dissatisfaction with the
safety issues pertaining to allowable U-turns, mast arm placement and the lack of signalized left turn
traffic lights.
CONSIDERATIONS:
On October 10, 2005 the City Commission expressed the desire to notify FDOT of concerns regarding
certain safety issues as a result of construction along SR 434. These concerns were noted to be the
placement of the traffic signal mast arms in the sidewalks, with special emphasis on the intersection at
Winter Springs Elementary School, issues with U-turns at all intersections and the lack ofleft turn
signals being installed at the intersections of Moss Road and Edgemon A venue.
The proposed Resolution Number 2005-42 establishes the City's official request for FDOT to take
immediate action to correct these safety issues.
