REQUEST: Community Development Department is advising the City
Commission that the City of Oviedo has scheduled a Land Planning Agency public
hearing for Thursday, June 20, 2002, to consider a Special Exception to allow a 60-bed
hospital and medical offices. The site is located on 37.1 acres west of SR 426, north of
Oviedo Marketplace Boulevard, east of SR 417, and south of Winter Springs Boulevard.
PURPOSE: This agenda item is to update the Commission on the City of Oviedo's progress
toward the location of a hospital in Oviedo.
CONSIDERATION: At the January 28,2002, Commission meeting, the Commission, upon a
request from Commissioner Blake, directed the City Manager to advise Oviedo of the
Commission's interest in a joint meeting to discuss how the two cities could work together in
locating a hospital in Oviedo. The City Manager subsequently contacted Oviedo City Manager
Gene Williford who advised that he would determine if and in what way Winter Springs might
be of assistance. The City Commission was advised of this via February 11, 2002, City
Commission informational Agenda Item "D."
On February 27, 2002, City staff received an intergovernmental notice regarding a pertinent
March 7, 2002, Oviedo Land Planning Agency meeting.
On June 12, 2002, staff received an intergovernmental notice of the up-coming Oviedo
Land Planning Agency meeting to discuss a special exception to allow a 60-bed hospital
and medical offices in the O-C office zoning district (please see attachment). Staff has
requested Oviedo provide a copy of the LP A agenda item/staff report - to be copied and
provided in your boxes when received.
RECOMMENDATION: None required
