REQUEST:
The Community Development Department- Code Enforcement
Division requests the City Commission considers information
regarding boat parking along Shepard Rd..
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this agenda item is to request the City Commission
considers information regarding boat parking along Shepard Rd..
APPLICABLE LAW AND PUBLIC POLICY:
Section 20-411 of City Code provides for the lawful parking of boats and
trailers in the side yard of a residence. "Side yard" is defined as " a yard
between the principal building and the sideline of a lot and extending
from the front lot line to the rear lot line and being the minimum
horizontal distance between a side lot line and the side of the principal
building or any projection thereto." (Section 20-1)
CONSIDERATIONS:
Mr. Paul Leckinger spoke at the June 10, 2002 City Commission meeting
under the "Public Input" portion of the meeting and voiced some concerns
over boat parking along Shepard Rd. that is clearly visible from the road.
The Commission requested a report on Code Enforcement Division's
findings.
Although Mr. Leckinger agreed to give more directions as to which
residences he was referring to, to this date Code Enforcement has not
received any more information. An inspection was made of the area and

revealed that although some boats are visible from roadways, none were
found to be parked in violation of the code. Unless the code is amended,
this Division cannot cite residents for parking their boat in full visibility of
roadways.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: None required.
