REQUEST: The Public Works Department requests the City Commission receive information
relative to the widening of US 17-92 from Shepard Road to Lake Mary Boulevard.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this Agenda Item is for the City Commission to be briefed and provide input
as part of the Project Development and Environment Study of the widening and/or
rehabilitation of US 17-92 from Shepard Road to Lake Mary Boulevard.
CONSIDERA TIONS
The Florida Department of Transportation is conducting a Project Development and Environment
(PD&E) Study for US 17-92. The study limits extend for 3.65 miles from Shepard Road to Lake Mary
Boulevard. The FDOT is studying the widening and/or rehabilitating the existing four-lane, divided principal
arterial to six general-use lanes, by adding one lane in each direction. In addition, the study includes an
evaluation of drainage and stormwater management facility improvements, and potential median changes for
access management.
Eileen LaSeur, of Carter & Burgess, is the Public Involvement Coordinator for the project. Ms.
LaSeur will provide a brief presentation and respond to any input or questions from the Commission. In
addition, an Alternatives Public Meeting is scheduled for October 5,2006 form 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the
Seminole County Extension Auditorium (250 West County Home Road) to solicit additional public input.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Commission provide whatever input they deem appropriate.
