WHEREAS, from May ]'"'1 through the 5/". 2002. the llllll JNOre .\'(/Iillll(/II/ig/i School
Drill I~,(//II ("I/tIlIl/JiIlIlSllljJS were held in Daytona Beach, Florida; and
approximately 3,000 cadets from 63 High Schools from across the United
States of America competed in various demanding exercises to determine
the best of the best; and
IVHLREAS. to e.-rcel in the "/m/h'uioll" category required the platoon to exhibit
incredible composure, self-control, ml/ch technical expertise. knowledge
and skill in response to numerOl/S orders directed at the platoon; and
IVH ER EAS. I Vill/er .5jJrillg\ Hi,-.;/i Sdllj()l did of course successfully surpass all the other
teams and are the National Champions for this category as a result of the
precise and meticl/lous skills of the following thirteen team members:

Proclaim Monday, May 13, 2002, as a Day of Recognition in honor of the

WII EHEAS, the accomplishments of exceptional individuals should always be noted; and
WI'IEI~EAS, this Proclamation recognizes a student athlete from Winter Sprino.:s Iligh
School - the extraordinary .fen Forst - who has been a member of the ";\11-
Slate Team" both in her Junior and Senior years; has been named "Selllinole
County's Player of the Year" again both in her Junior and Senior years; has
received the distinct honor of being named "Athlete of the 'Ileal''' at Winter
Springs High S.chool; and
\VI.IEREAS, most recently, Jen FOI-st has been named "Central Florida's Player of lhe
Y car" in which her exceptional skills and proficiency in basketball and
volleyball coupled with her athleticism and true sportsmanship has surpassed
all other contenders in Lake County, Orange County, Osceola County;
Seminole County, and V olusia County; and
WB EREAS, in addition to her incredible atWetic abilities, Jell Forst is also a very gifted
student with approximately a 4.3 grade point average, and as a result of her
many accomplishments, efforts, and hard work, in the fall - Jell will grace the
University of South em Alabama on a full scholarship!
NO IV, THEREFORE, I, PAUL P. PARTYKA, Mayor of the City of Winter Springs, hereby do
Proclaim Monday, May 13, 2002, as a Day of Recognition in honor of

\\"JIEHEAS, at the 2002 Naliollallligh ScI10l) I .IROTC Drill Team Champiollships held
in Daytona Beach, Florida from the 3rd through the 5th of May 2002,
approximately 3,000 cadets from 63 High Schools from across the United
States of America competed in various categories to award the top
contenders; and
\\'11 FREAS, to excel in the "i\!I(TJl<ltive Arms Exhibitioll Individual" category, the winner
would need to exhibit extraordinary skill, technical precision, discipline,
perseverance, and a true commitment to excellence; and
WII EREAS, the most exemplary presentation of .Jennifer Bergst of Wintcr Springs High
School was recognized by the judges and she was awarded the great honor
of being named the 2002 National Champion for all of her efforts; and
WIIEREAS, in a demonstration of true conunitment to excellence, not only did .Jennifer
Bergst place 151 in the 2002 competition, but .Jennifer Bergst was the
reigning National Champion for the year 2001 .
