REQUEST: Community Development Department is advising the City Commission of the current
status of Home Again Disaster Recovery Assistance Program.
PURPOSE: This agenda item is to update the Commission on the purpose of the Home Again Disaster
Recovery Program, its current status, and future implementation.
CONSIDERATION:
In response to the damage caused by the hurricanes of 2004, the City of Winter Springs applied to the
Florida Housing Finance Corporation and received $300,000 to assist homeowners with hurricane
damage. These funds are intended to provide assistance to eligible homeowners that had damage from
the hurricanes but have not been able to conduct repairs.
To be considered, applicants must meet the following guidelines:
. You own the damaged home
. The damaged home is your primary residence
. Your total household income is at or below the limits established for the program
. Your home is located within the City of Winter Springs
The time frame for submitting applications for the Home Again Program was from approximately April
19,2005 until May 16,2005. There were 45 applications received within the specified time frame.
These applications are at various stages of completeness and are currently in the process of being
ranked by Meridian Community Services Group, Inc. the City's consultant. Once the applications are
ranked, the consultant will bring the rankings to the City Commission for approval. Once the rankings
are approved, meetings with the homeowners will begin and work write-ups will be made. The
homeowner is responsible for getting bids for the work to be done. The City Commission must approve
those bids.
