REQUEST: Police Department informing the Commission of its efforts to assist the Winter
Springs Rotary Club in a community neighborhood project.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this agenda item is to infonn the Commission that the Police
Department assisted the Winter Springs Rotary Club to identify a community project
for the Indian Ridge and Deer Song subdivision.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Pulice Department was contacted in early April, 2005 by Mr.
Gary Grund of the Winter Springs Rotary Club advising that they wished to do a comn11.IDity project
in the city and asked if we knew of anyone who needed assistance.
The Police Dep81tment suggested that the clubhouse located in the Indian Ridge subdivision would
be a great project to get involved in. The clubhouse sits in between Indian Ridge subdivision and
Deersong subdivision with easy access to both ofthe comrmmities. The clubhouse is in disrepair
and neither subdivision has the money to repair the facility. The communities plan for this
clubhouse is to have a safe place for the children and other residents to gather. This project will
compliment the actions taken by thc City that has reduced crime, cleaned up code violations and has
started to restore pride back into their community.
Mr. Grund felt that this would be a great project for Rotary club volunteers, along with volunteers
from the Winter Springs Police Department, Winter Springs Police Explorers as well as people from
the two communities. The volunteers will meet early Saturday morning, May 14, 2005 to clean up
and paint the olltside of the clubhouse.
FUNDING: None
RECOMMENDATION: None at this time.
