Bush requests that the City Commission approve Resolution 2006- 32 as part of the City of Winter Springs Nomination packet for the Honorable John F. Bush, Mayor; Resolution 2006-33 as part of the City of Winter Springs Nomination packet for Anthony A. Garganese, City Attorney; Resolution 2006-34 as part of the City of Winter Springs Nomination packet for Andrea Lorenzo- Luaces, City Clerk; and Resolution 2006-35 as part of the City of Winter Springs Nomination packet for Timothy 1. Lallathin, Fire Chief - all for the Florida League of Cities 2006 "Florida Cities of Excellence Awards". PURPOSE: This Agenda Item and accompanying four (4) Resolutions are to provide supporting documentation for the Florida League of Cities 2006 "Florida Cities of Excellence Awards" related to the City Commission's approval and endorsement of four (4) City Officials. CONSIDERATIONS: At the June 12, 2006 Regular City Commission Meeting, under Regular Agenda Item "308", the City Commission discussed this issue. CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA CITY COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING - JUNE 26, 2006 CONSENT AGENDA ITEM 404 PAGE20F3 During this discussion, the City Commission approved the nomination of the following individuals: ~ John F. Bush, Mayor for "Mayor of the Year" ~ Anthony A. Garganese, City Attorney for "City Attorney of the Year" ~ Andrea Lorenzo-Luaces, City Clerk for "City Clerk of the Year" ~ Timothy J. Lallathin, Fire Chief for "City Employee of the Year" The following is an excerpt from the June 12, 2006 Regular City Commission Minutes related to the Florida League of Cities 2006 "Florida Cities of Excellence Awards": Commissioner Krebs stated, "I would like the Commission to consider some nominations for the Florida Cities of Excellence Awards." Commissioner Krebs continued, "I would like to consider the Mayor." Commissioner McGinnis added, "I would too." Commissioner Krebs said to Mayor Bush, "I looked at the criteria and I think you more than meet that. I am really proud of what you have accomplished this past year, all the meetings you go to, all the information you bring us back. I think you are great. And so I would like the Commission to consider nominating you." Commissioner McGinnis added, "I was going to bring up the same thing - absolutely!" Commissioner Krebs then noted, "The others that I would like the Commission to consider would be again, our City Attorney. Anthony [Garganese], I would have to say that today I saw the true spirit in you as far as what really somebody goes to college for and as far as becoming an Attorney - I saw within you that will to fight for really what you believed in, at any cost, and not anybody else's, but your own. And that is the true spirit of what you are about. And I really would want to recommend you for that." Commissioner Krebs then said, "I would again like to recommend our City Clerk, for her dedication and everything that she has done forever - as she has been sitting here. And the last person that I would really like - the Commission to consider would be City Employee of the Year and that would be [Fire Chief] Tim Lallathin, for his dedication. If you look to see what his commitment, judgment, dependability, cooperation - I just think he has been exceptional. I would like the Commission to consider those and whatever else." Mayor Bush summarized, "Commissioner Krebs has recommended the Mayor, the Attorney, the Clerk, and the Fire Chief." Commissioner McGinnis asked, "Who puts all that together?" Mayor Bush stated, "I think the person who is nominated." Commissioner McGinnis stated, "Okay. Bush, Mayor as "Mayor of the Year". Resolution 2006-33 endorsing Anthony A. Garganese, City Attorney as "City Attorney of the Year". Resolution 2006-34 endorsing Andrea Lorenzo-Luaces, City Clerk as "City Clerk of the Year". Resolution 2006-35 endorsing Timothy J. Lallathin, Fire Chief as "City Employee of the Year".
