REQUEST:
Mayor John F. Bush is requesting that the City Commission authorize a
Resolution in conjunction with the Metroplan Orlando Board.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this Agenda Item is for the City Commission to authorize the
approval of a Resolution which declares March 2005 as Traffic Safety Month for
Central Florida, in conjunction with the Metroplan Orlando Board.
CONSIDERATIONS:
The Metroplan Orlando Board has asked that the City of Winter Springs approve a
Resolution designating March 2005 as Traffic Safety Month for Central Florida.
FUNDING:
Not Applicable.

RECOMMENDATION:
The City Commission is requested to approve the attached Resolution Number
2005-12 designating March 2005 as Traffic Safety Month for Central Florida, in
conjunction with the Metroplan Orlando Board.

RESOLUTION NUMBER 2005-12
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA,
DECLARING MARCH 2005 TRAFFIC SAFETY MONTH.
WHEREAS, METRO PLAN ORLANDO, as the metropolitan planning
organization (MPO) for Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties, is responsible for
regional transportation planning in Central Florida; and
WHEREAS, METRO PLAN ORLANDO serves as the forum for local elected
officials and transportation experts to work together to improve transportation in the
region; and
WHEREAS, a major goal of the METROPLAN ORLANDO Board is to
improve safety for the residents and visitors who travel on the region's transportation
system; and
WHEREAS, several tragic automobile, pedestrian, and bicycle accidents have
occurred throughout the region in recent months, resulting in injuries and deaths; and
these tragedies have called attention to troubling accident, injury, and fatality rates in
Central Florida and raised awareness among the general public of the need to improve
transportation safety; and
WHEREAS, through improvements to transportation facilities and responsible
behavior on the part of system users, injuries and deaths can be reduced; and the entire
community must work together to improve safety in the region.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA AND THE
METROPLAN ORLANDO BOARD THAT THIS RESOLUTION
DECLARES MARCH 2005 TRAFFIC SAFETY MONTH FOR CENTRAL
FLORIDA.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF WINTER SPRINGS, FLORIDA AND THE METROPLAN
ORLANDO BOARD URGES CENTRAL FLORIDA RESIDENTS AND
VISITORS TO DRIVE, WALK, AND CYCLE SAFELY AND
RESPONSIBLY AT ALL TIMES.
PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS
