Home My WebLink About2005 03 14 Consent 206 Supplemental Appropriation from the Solid Waste Fund 031405 _ COMM _ Consent_ 206_ Supplemental_Appropriation COMMISSION AGENDA ITEM 206 CONSENT X INFORMATIONAL PUBLIC HEARING REGULAR March 14,2005 Regular Meeting MGR~T , Authorization REQUEST: City Manager requesting a supplemental appropriation of $25,000 from the Solid Waste fund for renegotiation/rebidding of solid waste services. PURPOSE: This agenda item is needed to carry out a directive from the Commission for the City manager to re-negotiate a contract with Florida Waste Services. CONSIDERATIONS: The current solid waste contract with Florida Waste Services terminates on February 28, 2006. The City Commission has directed the City Manager to attempt to negotiate a new contract favorable to the city and if necessary to begin the bidding for solid waste services. The City Manager has employed the services of R.C.G. Consulting Services to assist with the negotiation process and if necessary the rebidding process. For reasons which the City Manager has discussed with the Commission the amount of services provided by R.C.G. is becoming more involved than originally anticipated. Although the Commission did not place any constraints on the cost, it appears that the total could be as much as $20,000 - $30,000 depending on how much additional work will be required to document the city's position, the amount of time involved in negotiations, and if necessary, rebidding. Due to the amount of money at contest, and the value of the contract involved this is a very small amount of money to expend on technical assistance. FUNDING: It is estimated that $20,000 - $30,000 will be needed to complete the negotiations and if necessary, rebidding of solid waste services. The current fund balance in the solid waste fund is $228,000. 031405 _ COMM _ Consent_206 _Supplemental_Appropriation Page 2 of2 RECOMMENDATION: The City Manager is recommending that the Commission approve a supplemental appropriation of $25,000 from the solid waste fund for consulting services related to the renegotiations, and if necessary, rebidding of solid waste services.
