Authorization
REQUEST: Public Works Department Responding to the Residents Allegation that
Public Works employees dumped traffic signal demolition debris on Hayes
Road.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this Board item is to respond to the Residents allegation at the
April23rd City Commission meeting that she witnessed Public Works employees
dumping traffic signal demolition debris on property on Hayes Road.
. CONSIDERA TIONS:
.
Statfvisited the area on Hayes Road on April 24th to view the construction debris
on Hayes Road, which was alleged to have been dumped by Public Works personnel. The
resident correctly identified the nature of the debris as being from a traffic signal
demolition due to the guy wires, conduit, concrete, and steel traffic signal boxes. Public
Works has not and does not do traffic signal construction, demolition, or modifications
and did not dump this debris.
We suspected the contractor or subcontractor for Tuskawilla Road due to the
recent signal demolition work occurring there and had the project manager visit the site.
We have had past problems with this contractor cutting through the Ranchlands from their
S.R. 427 project to Tuskawilla Road and know they are familiar with these roads. Both
the general contractor and signalization subcontractor denied any knowledge of this debris
but advised us they would warn their employees. Because a portion of the debris was in
the right of way, Public Works removed the debris and took it to a landfill.
