REQUEST:
Information Services wishes to furnish information to
Commission regarding questions previously raised about
the quality of the images on the City's LaserFiche
document management system via Web Link.
PURPOSE:
To answer questions raised by two commissioners regarding the
quality of scanned documents on the LaserFiche document
management system when viewing via Web Link.

lower quality because they are being displayed in black and white .png
format. The .png format is a format that is created on the fly and is 5 times
smaller than the normal tif/tiff image. This method is necessary in order to
increase the speed at which images are displayed and decreases the amount
of bandwidth necessary to view the image. The advantage to this is that
the user can browse through images quickly without having to download
full image files which take more time and bandwidth. Once the user finds
what he/she wants, the image can be downloaded/converted to a PDF via
the PDF button in the Weblink browser. The user should find the quality
of the PDF document more than satisfactory.
